Theory Says White Holes Are Out There (But Stay Practical To Win In Business)

Black holes are a big deal to the science nerds and Hollywood likes to make bad sci-fi movies about them.  There is a ton of clickbait out there with things like “A black hole could fit into your pocket!” enticing you to learn more about these gravitational monsters (Yes, I click on stuff like that because I like learning new things).  You may not know that there is an opposite theory out there about the existence of “White Holes”.

The idea here is that a white hole would be the opposite of our event horizon causing friends.  Instead of crushing everything within its grasp, it would spit out matter like a giant interstellar water hose.  Has one of these anomalies ever been directly observed?  Nope.  But neither have any black holes.  We only know about black holes because science infers their location based on the gravitational effects surrounding them.  What they actually are, as well as the existence of their mass-spewing brothers, is a theory trying to explain what we think.

The black hole theory is based upon observations, while the white hole theory is complete conjecture.  Either way, the theories don’t explain the mysteries of the universe.  They also don’t have a lot of practical use in our day-to-day lives.

A lot of knowledge is like that.  Fun to learn, but not very useful.  If we want to be successful in business and life we need to learn things that can be applied.

Business School, Moderately Useful But Not Necessary

Full disclosure, I went to business school so I would never tell someone not to go if they really wanted to.  I would want to make sure that they were going for the right reasons.  It is a great place to make contacts, practice being disciplined, and learn business theory.  Is it a requirement to be good at business acquisition, however?  Absolutely not.

I have used very little of what I learned for my MBA to build my portfolio of businesses.  In fact, I had to learn a completely new set of practical skills in order to find and close all of the deals I have done so far.  The reason for this is that the world works much differently than how the textbooks claim it does.  There is a simple explanation for why this is.  Reality is not static.  We are not all frozen in a painting where everything stays the same.  Technology, trends, and world events change the landscape faster than most of us can keep up.  A textbook is obsolete the moment it is written.

This may sound pessimistic or stressful but don’t worry, there is a way to hedge against the uncertainty.

The Three P’s - Practical, Patience, and Practice

Knowing theories about how the galaxy works will not help you purchase a business to generate cash flow.  Learning about things like how a profit and loss statement will, however.  These things are not super complicated to understand but they do require the two P’s: Patience and Practice.  In my business, I do everything I can to keep things practical, especially when it comes to people.

One of the ways you can drive to success is to keep things practical, practice them relentlessly, and have patience until you start to see results.  This framework is a great fallback any time things get a bit fuzzy.

Unlimited Questions

When you are starting something new it can seem like there are a million questions to be asked.  The more I teach business acquisition the more I understand that students will always have questions I haven’t heard before.  This does not stress me out because being an Acquisition Ace is not a theoretical exercise.  It is a business strategy based on practical principles.  You can’t stump me because I always can downshift to what I know works.  Don’t believe me?  Here is a video I put together of some questions I am getting from prospective students:

If you watched that video you will notice that I break things down into small digestible parts.  Business acquisition is 100% practical.  You don’t need to learn pie-in-the-sky theories of the universe or even have an “I’m going to change the world!” mindset.  To be an Acquisition Ace you just need to master the basics.  That is what I teach my students day in and day out.  If you want to get into the acquisition game start with the practical fundamentals and you won’t go wrong.
