The non-business habits that gave me huge business success

Consistently practicing healthy habits is one of the biggest needle-movers for entrepreneurs

Hello friends!

Most entrepreneurs will grind endlessly to optimize their business, while completely ignoring what makes everything possible: their bodies and minds.

That doesn’t mean you need to be doing ice baths at 4am or tracking all your biometric data.

But the habits I’ve built around sleep, movement, and focus are a big reason I’ve been able to acquire eight businesses over the last five years without losing my mind.

As a husband and father of four kids, my days are chaotic by default.

So, while my routines aren’t fancy, doing them consistently has brought a lot of success I likely wouldn’t have had otherwise.

What I Do Every Night

Getting good sleep is non-negotiable for me, and three things I religiously aim for include:

  • Total darkness: Every light in the room goes off (blackout curtains are great if you need them).

  • Cool temperature: Research backs up that your body sleeps better in a cooler room, with around 65°F for a sweet spot.

  • No screens before bed: Scrolling or watching videos right before sleep wrecks your sleep quality (I learned this the hard way).

What I Do Every Morning

My two non-negotiables are sunlight and movement.

I try to get outside early, because I’ve found that a few minutes of natural light in the morning does more for my mental clarity than any supplement I’ve tried.

It’s also a great time to clear my head before the day kicks in.

If I can’t make it to the gym, I’ll knock out some pushups and squats at home just to get the blood moving. 

All that to say - this doesn’t have to be complicated!

The Habit That Ties it All Together

Limit your social media.

I use it for my business - it may even be how you found this newsletter!

But there’s a huge difference between intentional use and mindless scrolling.

If you want to do your best work, you can’t start (or end) the day by handing your attention to an algorithm.

Small habits, done consistently, add up to a very different life over time.
